THE MAGAZINE PRINTING QUOTE BRIEF
Before you can get your magazine printed, you will need to create a printing quote to submit to an offset press. Printing quotes must be submitted in the proper format in order for a customer service representative at an offset press to provide you with an accurate quote for your printing job. Offset printing works on a very simple principle: ink and water don't mix. Images (words and art) are put on plates, which are dampened first by water, then ink. The ink adheres to the image area, the water to the non-image area. Then the image is transferred to a rubber blanket and from the rubber blanket to paper.
THE MAGAZINE OFFSET PRESS DIRECTORY
If you are serious about publishing a magazine, you will need to interface with printers specializing in magazine printing. If you anticipate having a print run anywhere between 5,000 to 700,000 copies per issue, you will need to utilize the services of an offset lithography press. The most common offset presses are sheet fed (utilizing sheets of paper) and web (rolls of paper) for magazine printing. At least 30% of your overall operational budget will be allocated for printing.
THE MAGAZINE LAYOUT SOFTWARE BRIEF
Once you have your concept for a new magazine solidified, you will have to begin the arduous task of putting it all together. After you have gathered all your content and images for your premiere issue, unless you plan to do your own layout, you will most likely need the services of a graphic artist to develop your concept and bring it to life.
